Labor-only help covers loading, unloading, or both. You arrange the rental truck or container separately. You’re also responsible for arranging the truck driver or container transportation. The final total depends on the quoted scope, crew size, materials, base access, waiting charges, and cancellation terms.
What affects the total labor-only moving cost?
An hourly range alone doesn’t establish your final cost. Each provider decides what its rate includes. Ask for one written agreement covering the complete job.

Why does Camp Pendleton access need separate planning?
Booking labor does not authorize anyone to enter Camp Pendleton. Access must be confirmed separately for every person and vehicle involved.
The official Camp Pendleton base access page says all visitors need authorized access and valid identification. The correct process depends on the visit’s purpose and sponsorship status.
The page publishes separate procedures for visitors, contractors, vendors, and transportation providers. A private labor provider may not fit the category you expect. Social-visitor and rideshare instructions shouldn’t be used as shortcuts.
Ask the base access office which process applies to your provider. Give them the actual purpose, people, vehicle, and planned entrance. Don’t assume a household sponsor can approve every person performing paid work.
Camp Pendleton’s FAQ directs commercial vehicles to Las Pulgas Gate. If you’re using a rented truck, ask the base access office which classification and entrance apply to that actual vehicle.
Access rules can change. Check again near your move date, even if you’ve entered successfully before.
Can hired loading help count toward a PPM?
Hired packing, loading, and unloading labor can be an allowable PPM operating expense. That does not mean the expense is reimbursed dollar for dollar. It also doesn’t guarantee eligibility or claim approval.
The current Marine Corps LOGCOM PPM page links the official June 28, 2024 PPM handout. The handout says to obtain orders and DMO approval before starting a PPM.

- DD Form 2278 signed by the member and counselor
- A rental contract or vehicle registration, as applicable

- Empty and full weight tickets
- The PPM checklist and statement of expenses
- PCS orders or a DMO endorsement

Keep the provider’s actual invoice, written scope, and payment proof. Preserve rental documents and applicable weight tickets with them. An invoice documents the service performed. It does not establish government approval or entitlement.
